About Can My Cable Do It

Can My Cable Do It checks whether an HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C or Thunderbolt connection can carry a resolution, refresh rate and bit depth, with and without Display Stream Compression. It works out each mode's data rate from VESA's timing formula and compares it with what each link carries after encoding, so the answer is a number you can check, not a rule of thumb.

It covers links and modes only. There are no device or model pages: a laptop, console or monitor supports whatever its ports and settings allow, and the checker answers that question once you know them.

Who builds it

Built and maintained by David Owen, Adelaide. Every figure on the site comes from a published source listed on the methodology page, and the tests that check the figures must pass before any change goes live.
